Dear Friends,

This week in Springfield, Senate Bill 1931, of which I am a Chief Co-Sponsor, passed out of the Elementary and Secondary Education Committee. This bill will help ensure that the educational institutions of Illinois are equipped to provide a safe and secure learning environment for our educators and students. Dear Friends,

As I return to Springfield for the final month of spring session, I wanted to take a moment to address a topic that has been on everyone’s minds; pensions. IHSA’s Football Safety Protocol Falling Behind TCYFL and Pop Warner

I am very happy to see that the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) adopted some of my recommendations from House Bill 1205, including zero hitting in the off-season and further education for coaches. However, I am disappointed that Youth Football organizations such as The Chicagoland Youth Football League and Pop Warner continue to be more proactive and advanced in their safety protocol for young football athletes than the Illinois High School Association. I am hoping to see more reforms from the IHSA in the coming months.

A detailed copy of the IHSA's report to the House Education Committee can be found here.
